Who am I?

Who is this writer you may be asking or perhaps more importantly you are curious as to why I am writing this blog.

Well being gracious, I shall respond to both of your questions; thank you for asking! Some of my fonder memories growing up involved reading. My mom tells me when I was young, she would tell me to bring her a book to read together. Eagerly, I would run to the closet and come back with a stack of books. "I told you one," my mom would protest playfully, but I just looked at her with the sweetest eyes and she simply could not resist. We would read together for hours including one of my all time favorites A Porcupine Name Fluffy

When I finally became old enough to read by myself, I would constantly find myself in other worlds or meeting people who only existed between the pages of a book. From a young age, I also knew that I wanted to be a teacher specifically an upper elementary school teacher (currently I am a 4th grade teacher). In upper elementary, children are perfecting their reading skills, but they are at a point where reading goes beyond sounding out syllables and identifying words. It is in these years that a love of reading can be fostered or quickly plucked from the fragile ground that the seed was laid.

Naturally, I recognize the importance that the teacher plays in creating a desire to read. Thus to get a broader scope of the children's literature that I did not read, I have decided to take upon myself the task of reading children's literature for pleasure so that I can be better equipped to recommend books to my students.  In fact, I have the goal to read every single Caldecott and Newberry Award winner books.

However, at the same time, I also want the opportunity to share things that my own students have gotten excited about learning, not just the books.  So not only will I be sharing book ideas and how to use them within the classroom, I will be sharing other resources that I have created or used.  Please enjoy and use these as a way to better enhance your own classrooms.
